Anthropometrics
Anthropometry is the
measurement of the human body. People normally do not think about it but
everyone experiences it daily. The reaching distance from the couch to the controller
is a great example of how it is used. People normally have the controller in
arms reach and the television is also normally set at a certain distance depending
on big the screen is.
When designing, anthropometry
is used constantly. When a house is being designed for someone who is disabled
or in a wheelchair, they are unable to reach normal heights so their arms reach
needs to be considered for cabinets, closets, etc.
Lastly, in stores certain
items are at specific heights to target different customers. Toys and candy are
lower so children can see them at eye level.
I really liked the examples that you used to explain anthropometrics. They gave a much better understanding of the word.
