Design Philosophy
SELFISH
PLEASURE
"Art
creates questions, design creates answers." - Jesse Weaver
My design philosophy is based on a relationship between self-satisfaction
and human needs. Art and design are used to create a story, turning a space
into a place. I enjoy the challenge of mentally and aesthetically satisfying
others.
Art is used to translate emotion
and uniqueness to a piece. There is so much freedom while creating art; it can
be complex, mentally stimulating, or simple, there are no guidelines. The art is
a reflection of the designer, much like a signature. It is a designer’s
intention to make humans feel something or appreciate the work.
Design is when you assign meaning
to an object. During the first phases, several ideas are put together to create
a practical and effective design. Step by step, layers are peeled back until
there is just the skeleton of a design. What is left is a simple, functional
design that does not need to be interpreted.
Hello Lynn! I enjoyed reading your design philosophy. In particular, I like how you defined what art and design mean to you and how you relate them together. What is a specific example of applying art and design to a project that you have completed thus far as a design student?
